Hubbard is a city of 7,636 people in southeastern Trumbull County, formed from part of Hubbard Township in the Connecticut Western Reserve. It covers 3.90 square miles of land inside a total area of 3.91 square miles, at roughly 945 feet. The city contains no major waterways, though Mud Run and Little Yankee Run flow through the limits. It is a suburb in the Youngstown-Warren metropolitan area.

The city takes its name from Nehemiah Hubbard Jr., a Connecticut Land Company agent from Middletown, Connecticut who led a surveying party. Samuel Tylee, also from Middletown, became the township's first settler in 1801 with his family. Many early settlers were farmers from New Jersey who cleared the forest for crops. A post office called Hubbard was established in 1826. The town stayed small until 1861, when local coal and iron industries developed it rapidly over the decade, and it was incorporated as a village in 1868 with Nathaniel Mitchell as first mayor.
