Silver Lake is a Summit County village of 2,516 people, a suburb of Akron mostly surrounded by the cities of Stow and Cuyahoga Falls, with a small border shared with Munroe Falls. It covers 1.60 square miles at roughly 994 feet, of which 0.18 square miles is water. The village contains two lakes, Silver Lake and Crystal Lake. It is part of the Akron metropolitan area.

Ralph H. Lodge acquired the lake in 1874 and then bought the land around it. What began as a picnicking and swimming area grew into the 600-acre Silver Lake Amusement Park, with animal exhibits, a roller coaster, sport facilities, a dance hall and a hotel. In its prime the park drew over 10,000 visitors a day and was one of the biggest attractions in Ohio. It was sold in 1917 and subdivided for residential development, which led to the village's incorporation. A miniature railway ran in the recreation park from 1902 to 1917.
